James Madison Goff - December 10,2011

Today's James' birthday,
We're so glad!
He arrived this morning
To join his mommy and dad!

Jakeb had everything lined out,
Prepared and ready!
Tho he was a little antsy,
Lacey was calm and steady.

If she made a sudden noise
Or any kind of sound,
He just knew it was time
For James to come 'round.

The wait was well worth it.
James is healthy and strong!
He weighs 8 lbs, 2 oz.
And is 20.5 inches long.

Welcome to the family, James Madison Goff!
We love you already!

Gerald Henry Goff - December 2, 1922

Today's Papaw's birthday
He was born in '22.
He had such a strong presence,
Which I still feel, don't you?

What a great man
To family and town,
He was honest and warm,
And sometimes liked to clown.

He was a WWII veteran,
Raised by a single mom.
He learned work ethics early
And passed them along.

Now his singing -- oh man.
It'd make the dog howl!
He'd sing so off-key
That we'd finally call "foul!"

But out on the golf course
Papaw had a mean shot.
Always straight down the middle!
Yep, his game was hot.

He was our Pop and our Papaw,
So smart and so cool!
Made us feel so important
Even when we acted a fool.

He kept me from dropping out
When I turned 16.
(I was gonna move to Albert Pike,
And sew flowers I'd seen).

He was devoted to our Mother,
Their many years were so fine.
Gerald was estatic with Edith.
Tho it was too short of a time.

Julie and Bill Boy made him
Proud beyond measure!
I was his "13- year- old daughter" --
A sentiment I treasure.

Pop's kids and his grandkids
Were his joy and delight
Pam and David included,
He loved ya'll at first sight!

Love to all of Papaw's Family Tree!
Hit "reply to all" and share a Papaw memory.

Edith Wright Hughes Goff - November 21, 1919

Today's Edith's birthday
We're so glad.
Let's see how many
She has had......

She's sharp, she's cool,
And seems so young.
It's hard to believe
That she's 91!

She plays bean bag baseball,
Dominos and cards.
She is totally unbeatable
(never lets down her guard!)

Can't get her by phone?
She's probably playing bingo.
Or gone with Gus and her peeps
To the Broken Bow casino!

And remember our cruise?
That was totally fab!
Except for getting FLASHED
As we stepped out of the cab!

She adopts orphaned doggies.
Provides a home that is nice.
That's especially appreciated
By Tessa and Spice!

Edith joined our family
And became a Goff
Back in '99
When she married my Pop!

Such a sweet, loving lady,
And what a blessing, too!
To her stepkids and grandkids,
Friends, nieces, and nephew.

Now join me in singing
Happy Birthday to You
(If she's not gone once again
To play bridge or 42!)

Happy Birthday to You...
Happy Birthday to You...
Happy Birthday Dear Edith...........
Happy Birthday to You!
And many more!

Love you much!
Becky

Dara Miller Goff - November 21, 1978

Today's Dara's birthday
We're so glad!
Let's see how many
She has had.
First we'll count the candles
And we'll see.....

Oh, that'll take too long
Cuz she's now 31!!

She's such a cute little mom
To her beautiful foursome.
Hey Dara, that's a golf team!
Have you started to coach 'em?

The M's: Macie, Miller and
Manning and Marlee Kay.
Will number five be named
For an "M" gulf hurricane?

Dara's living way down there
Near swamplands and gaters.
Omg- do I hear banjos???
(Wonder what Nathan paid her!)

She's loved and adored
By our family - as we've seen.
Will even dubbed her
Our own DARA QUEEN!

Help me to sing -- a cappella
If you will.
The thought of those banjos,
A little creepy even still!

Happy Birthday to You.....
Happy Birthday to You.....
Happy Birthday Dear Daraaaaa....
Happy Birthday to You!
And many more....
You're near the shore....

Luv u, Dara Queen!

Jack Augustus "Gus" Richardson, III - October 12, 1983

Today's Gus' birthday
We're so glad
Let's see how many
He has had.
First we'll count the candles
And we'll see...
One - no.
5 - no.
10- no.
15-no.
20 - no.
25 - no.
26 - no.
27 -yes!!!

Gonna stroll down Memory Lane
Won't you come along,
Before we start
The birthday song?

There are so many stories
About our Gus.
I can't tell them all
Or it'd cause a fuss.

I won't tell about the pageant
Where he won second place.
And he couldn't understand why,
What with his cute little face!

And the time that he said
He wanted a girl like me, sooo
I won't tell that he said
She should look better, tho!

Remember the games where
He tossed in the 3's?
He sure had the touch
For a white boy at LE!!

When he was only a teen
There were so many shocks.
Like our wreck and our losses,
Gus was definitely my rock!

He loves being an uncle
To Andrew, Asher, and Chloe!
And a master to Bailey--
She sure loves her boy!!

Nobody's any funnier,
Or has such a quick wit!
And a very big heart.
We miss you more than a bit!

Tho we're traveling now,
Rolling along,
We'll cya in November--
But for now, this short song.

Happy Birthday to You!
Happy Birthday to You!
Happy Birthday Dear Gustopherrrrr!
Happy Birthday to You!
And many more...
Channel 4....
Kiss the floor...

Love you, Gussie, and cya soon!
Mom

Brooke Schmidt McClintock - October 8, 1980

Today's Brookie's birthday
We're so glad
Let's see how many
She has had....
First we'll count the candles--
Nah, she'll think it's nerdy.
But she needs this poem cuz
This year she's THIRTY!

She's such a good mommy
To Andrew and Asher.
There's no better job
In this world---just ask her!

At church Brooke is busy
With nursery and song.
At work she helps doctors
Bring babies along.

She has so many kinfolk
And in-laws and steps.
Plenty of sitters....
(maybe a tad TOO much help?)

Brooke's a wife, mommy, sister,
A daughter and friend.
If we could pick a mate for our Justin
We'd choose her all over again!

Happy Birthday to You!
Happy Birthday to You!
Happy Birthday Dear Brooooooke!!
Happy Birthday to You!
And many more....
This song is not dirty....
Enjoy your next thirty.....

Love ya!
Becky

Justin David McClintock - September 28, 1982

Today's Justin's birthday
We're so glad
Let's see how many
He has had.
First we'll count the candles...
Hold it -- wait!!
Our little Justin
Is 28!!

He's all grown up
And the greatest pop!
His boys adore him,
And they'll never stop.

He's busy with family:
Andrew, Asher, and Brooke.
But still finds time to play
"Panties" or read a good book.

At Wesley they get Justin
To analyze the blood.
At home he writes stories
And they're never a dud!

Justin and David
Walk and talk just the same.
And now Andrew and Asher
Are part of that game!

Remember in TX when
They were just kids?
Justin, Laura, and Gus
Would play and do skits?

We went fishing and camping.
Played tennis and swam.
Took a trip to Colorado
(where writing this I am)

Oh be careful when you shop!
Check the weather reports.
Cuz Justin will head out in
His boxers (mall shorts!)

Happy Birthday to you!
Happy Birthday to you!
Happy Birthday dear Justiiiiiin!
Happy Birthday to you!
And many more!

Love ya much,

Becky

23 - no.
24 - Yes!!

Before we sing more
Let's remember a bit,
About Willie Boy
So we don't forget.

Trips to his kinfolk
Little Will would take.
Summers, holidays,
And sometimes spring break!

He'd tolerate a day
With Aunt B at school.
And church camp in Athens
Was always quite cool!

He's musically talented
Like his mom, as we'd seen.
Not many in this family
Inherited that gene!

Now that Will's grown
He's taken a bride.
We love his Christena
And the knot that they tied.

Will is cute and is sweet
(He is definately a Goff.)
Tho when driving in Portland
He sure got flipped off!

Happy Birthday to You!
Happy Birthday to You!
Happy Birthday Dear Willie Boy!
Happy Birthday to You!
And many more....

Love you much!!

Memories of Julie

from Laura:

I remember aunt julie laughing a lot, and also how she'd mail me stickers for special occasions.  I also remember how she knew a lot about rocks, so one time when we were in Arkansas by a river, I kept picking up rocks and asking her if they were diamonds, emeralds, etc.  funny.

from Becky

Laura is right - Julie knew a lot about nature. Not only rocks, but flowers, trees, herbs.... She and Noel used to have a little vacation/hunting house near the AR/MO line. When I was prob in college, I spent a weekend with her there. She took me all over the hills and "hollers" and introduced me to the older folks who had been there forever. They loved her and loved to see her coming! That's where she taught me the names of so many trees and wildflowers! Don't know how she knew so much having grown up a city girl. She was quite an awesome nature photographer! She had a fancy camera before fancy cameras were cool! Lol.

When David and I moved into our house on Starlite, Julie walked me through our yard and identified every plant, tree, flower---I wished many times I'd written down what she told me. I'm def not from the memory dept!

Oh, and when Papaw taught her to drive, it was on an old dirt road. The whole fam damily would ride along! He'd always holler "stay in the ruts"!! That was the family joke forever!! Bill Boy got the same treatment when they taught him to drive, and Julie would chime in "stay in the ruts!" by the time I came along, the roads were paved. But they still loved to say "stay in the ruts!" to me. Lol

And I've noticed that both Lissa and Will have her laugh!!!

I, too, sure miss her AND her laugh. So it's fun for me to hear them laugh!! :)

from Bill Boy:

Since Julie was the oldest I always had the advantage of her experience. She always gave me good advice about what to expect when I began a new grade or moved from elementary school to junior high and from junior high to high school and then to college.  Her academic over-achieving was sometimes a mixed-blessing for me but I always took full advantage of her high IQ whenever I needed help with homework.

Of course Julie and I had to consol each other when Becky came along and became the center of everyone's attention.  However, once we accepted the fact that Becky was going to stay, we all got along very well.

As a kid I assumed Julie knew everything because she always seemed confident and she always excelled in everything she did.  However, she also acted very proud of me and made me feel special.  As adults we lived miles apart and didn't see one another often enough.  But we thoroughly enjoyed being together whenever we had the chance.  Her sense of humor and love for people were contagious.

I've never seen Julie happier than when Lissa and Will were born.  I know Julie has been keeping an eye on things and I know she is so proud of the wonderful adults Lissa and Will have become.   Our lives have all been blessed because of Julie's influence.

from Jakeb:

Aunt Julie was a wonderful person.  She always seemed so full of life and happiness.  I can honestly say I never saw her without a smile.  I got to visit her a couple of times during college when I went up to see a razorback game.  She talked to me about the welcome wagon stuff and I could tell that she was very passionate about it.  I can't think of a better person to welcome new people to town.

from Laci:

I remember at Thanksgiving time I always wanted to make a turkey out of a pine cone. Laura and Lissa would usually do it with me. Most of you adults would just say "oh that's neat", but Aunt Julie always made me feel really special about it. She'd go on and on about how creative I was.
I also remember her great laugh!

from Nathan:

I remember when I was around 10 she happened to be in Texarkana around my birthday.  She  took me to the mall by myself to pick out a new pet for my birthday.  She told me I could pick out whatever pet I  wanted.  On the way there we discussed several different pets, hamsters, guinea pigs, etc., but then she mentioned parakeets. She talked about how you could teach them to talk, I thought that we be cool so that's what I got.  I remember her great sense of humor.  Always enjoyed going to visit in Fayettville.

from Pam:

I remember Julie's laugh.  It was a very special sound.  I also remember how jealous I was that she had such a green thumb.  I especially loved her flower garden in the spring.  All those beautiful bulbs she had planted.  She was also a great cook.  When we would visit, she always had some wonderful soup or other dish that was out-of-this world.  I sure miss her.

from Will:

Well, unfortunately, I don't remember a whole whole lot about my Mom, since I was only nine but I will share something the sticks out.

My friend Sam and I were being stupid kids one day and we were across the street from my house on Sunset, and we were pretending to throw tennis balls at cars coming down the street. Well, this was fun until one car decided to slam on the breaks. Well, Sam ran to his house, and I ran to mine scared to death. Well, the guy chose to follow me, and after I made it inside and sat in front of the TV(after all, I was so so innocent...) there came a loud knock on the door. Mom answered the door and the guy begins to complain about her son pretend throwing tennis balls. I figured I'm about to get a spanking or a nice yelling at. Instead, Mom proceeds to tell the man to mind his own business and quit complaining about her son. She closed to door on him, and looked at me, smiled, and said "Don't do that again" Nothing else happened. It just struck me that she decided to protect her son from the accusations of a stranger, which were true, than get me in trouble.

I have been told from many people that she loved me very much, and I do feel grateful that she was my Mom, if only for a little while.

Love you guys,
Will

from becky part 2
That is so Julie!  I can totally see her doing that. She actually handled a situation similar to that on my behalf when I was little. And I was probably just as innocent as you, Will. Haha. I've thought of it often over the years.

Thx for ending the day with YOUR memory! I think I can speak for all of us and say: that's very special to us!!

And I believe what Uncle Bill said today -- she is keeping an eye on things and is smiling down on you and Lissa -- and now Christena!

Love ya much!!

Julia Anne Goff Nash - August 22, 1948

Today's Julie's birthday
And tho she's not here,
Today we'll remember her
As if she were near.

Her youthful appearance ---
Stuck in our minds just like glue---
Make it hard to believe
That she'd be 62!

I remember quite well,
It was totally rad--
The contagious laughter
That my big sister had!

The 2 of us, with Bill,
Were partners in crime.
We'd open Christmas gifts early,
Wrap them back every time!

Remember the great debate:
Does a tree make a sound?
If it falls in the forest
And nobody's around??!

She achieved many things,
But nothing gave her a thrill
Half as much as the days
She had Lissa and Will!

So let's do this for them,
Let them see who it's from---
Share a memory of Aunt Julie,
Big Sister and Mom!

Love you, Lissa and Will!
Aunt B.

All over the place!

You've a great disposition
And a happy little laugh.
You can name nearly anything...
And can spot a giraffe!

Rebecca Lee Goff McClintock - August 13, 1956

It's weird writing
About my own birthday.
But it's August 13th.
What can I say?

I'm only doing this
To go in the "book"
Of Goff birthdays,
(At Christmas we'll look.)

So here we go,
This poem is mine.
Wooooo doggie,
I'm still 29!!!

My math's a bit off.
But it's ok to fix
The age of a girl
born in 1956!

It's my day to splurge.
Yep, lots and lots!
I think I'll get David
To fix me some hots!

Love to all of ya'll--from Idaho, enroute to Utah.

~~ Becky, Mom, Aunt B.

PS: I'm not supersticious
(just a little sticious).
A Friday the 13th birthday?
Kinda funny, but still okay.

Becky's Poem, by Justin McClintock

Yesterday was Grammy's bday,I wonder where she be
Travlin round the country with Grandpa and Rocky.

Seeing natures wonder with Rocky on her lap,
Then it's back to the camper, time to take a nap.

Seeing lots of mountains with animals on it
"Hey has anyone seen a SONIC?!?"

Minnesota, South Dakota, Wyoming, Idaho
Travlin round, raising HAIL everywhere she goes.

If she's not rafting down the river or riding on horseback
Then she's talking on the phone to Edith or Grandpa Mac.

Mingling with the locals is such a piece of cake
With Grandpa by her side to drive and to translate.

Everywhere she goes she has no problem making friends
And of course she does not discriminate from those who wear depends.

Tornadoes, fugitives, wild animals, she survived them all
But nothing compares to the family she will face this fall.

So in honor of her birthday let's sing her this song
As long as she promises not to sing a long.

Happy Birthday Becky!
Love, Andrew and Asher
